Five Chrysler Group 2011 vehicles made the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Picks for 2011 — up from four 2010 models last year.
The Dodge Avenger and Dodge Journey were each named IIHS Top Safety Picks — for the third straight year.
The Jeep Patriot (with optional side torso airbags) earned a Top Safety Pick honor for the second straight year. The Patriot is made at our Belvidere (IL) Assembly Plant.
The all-new 2011 Chrysler 200 (four-door model) also earned a Top Safety Pick (as did its predecessor the Sebring).
And the Jeep Grand Cherokee (which was on the IIHS list last year as the 2011 model) rounds out the Chrysler Group vehicle line up on the 2011 IIHS Top Safety Picks.
The five Chrysler Group selections employ a two-fold approach to safety, including active safety items such as electronic stability systems (standard in each of the 2011 models) and anti-lock brakes, as well as passive safety features, such as head restraints for front seat occupants and supplemental side-curtain or side-seat airbags.
